Canon EOS 500D vs Canon EOS 5D Mark II

The reason why I put these 2 models together for a review is that they both allow not only to take pictures, but also to capture videos. Also from functional aspect these two models are very similar, the main difference is Canon 5D Mark II is a professional camera, but Canon 500D can be looked a good solution for amateurs who doesn't want to stretch to buying into the 50D class. There’s a quite a difference in price I would say, $ 770 and $ 2800.

So, let’s see the video modes these two cameras have.

Canon EOS 500D:
• 1080p @ 20fps
• 720p @ 30fps
• VGA @ 30fps
• MOV (Video: H.264, Sound: Linear PCM)

Canon EOS 5D Mark II:
• 1920 x1080 @ 30fps
• 640 x 480 @ 30fps

In real life movie mode in both of these cameras isn't as easy as a fully automated camcorder. It doesn't autofocus "live" on the fly as most will be accustomed to, and sudden changes of exposure level can cause momentary interruptions in the recorded video stream as the camera works to adjust settings. Exposure is also set automatically, including shutter speed (from 1/30 to 1/125), aperture and ISO sensitivity. You can use EV compensation to adjust exposure up and down, and focus manually by turning the focusing ring on the lens, but it's best to do these things before you begin recording, because making these adjustments makes noise that the microphone will pick up, and can cause camera movement whether on or off a tripod.

Pictures or Movies?

Lots of us once were confronted with a choice: video or pictures? Usually it happens when some really important event takes place or you see something really beautiful in front of you that you would like to keep in your memory forever. But then there is one thing that stops you: what if the video would never be able to please the senses and mind aesthetically as the reality because of your old cameras and absence of pro video skills? Now you really do not have to burden your mind with thoughts like that. Even basic video editing will be able to help you out.

All you actually need is a camera and video material that you have shot with it. There is nothing really difficult with video editor that you might not be able to understand to brush your videos up. It just might sound as a long boring and complicated process but in fact it is not. Of course, you do not have to think that you can stop caring of how you shoot your videos at all because there are some video editors that will be able to solve all your problems. Some planning in advance will help you a lot. Do not forget about creativity, too. New angles and approaches will definitely make you and the views of your video satisfied. Surely, you will need some time to work on it, because not all of the two hours of your raw footage is worth watching. But having a video editor and some nice idea as your weapon you will be able to choose the best minutes of the video and bring up something captivating.

Good pictures are thrilling too, with no doubts. But video can bring you so much more. Different little things, details that will stay with you forever. The sound of the laugh of your beloved person, the way your daughter claps her little hands, the mimics of old woman selling sweets on the piazza, the dynamics of the leaves at the moments you heard something very important – the list of these moments can be continued forever. That is why sometimes there is no better thing than video.

You do not need think that you need some expensive or difficult video editor application to edit your video. There are many of them, some easy and simple versions can come with your video equipment, some you can buy in the store. However, even the basic ones that come with your operating system can help you a lot in the process of making a nice video story or an engaging video tale.
